Advancements tend to go in waves. As certain rates go critical, the coast guard usually overreacts by pushing way too many people through A-school, leading to slow downs later on when there's nowhere for them to advance. There was an 8 month or so period when I was on the AET list that the A-School was completely shut down.Luckily for junior members, there's a currently push to retire/separate people who have been in for a long time without advancing, and if you combine that with much stricter alcohol incident regulations, you have a fairly optimistic advancement forecast for the near future. Just don't screw up.
